Resagos de la colonia

Estos vídeos me trajeron a la mente la discusión de la segunda semana. 

Colonization has perpetuated our culture and we can live it every day in the way we express ourselves. This video is an example of two of the phrases that is common in our culture.    

Even though this expression has a 'dark' beginning, it has also brought good things because it has transformed with time, like being considerate to others. In the case, of 'Sumerce', it has more of a servant feeling, but it has turned out with time in something that is a good tool for customer service. So, new generations and the change of economy and power, have made these expressions in a good thing if they are not overused or in the case of 'Que pena con usted', to believe or use it when you don't know what is that you are ashamed of. in this case, is still a negative thing, because the person is feeling inferior to the other.

Here it goes: Journal – first class Aug 22– Aug 26 , 2024  The first class was a great dynamic because of the interventions, but above all, two stayed stuck in my head. Two girls in the class are daughters of immigrant Latinos in the USA. Usually, you think, that when an immigrant raises their child, they become more included in society. Fourth week: Women issues and movements in LA

  Women in Latinoamerica have many issues, especially violence issues. We have social issues too, like the possibility of abortion or discrimination in a work environment and the salaries. Also, the types of jobs she can apply for or the system accepts. In the last post, for example, I mentioned the care workers and the poor or not valued in these jobs but the preference of having a woman in those kinds of jobs. The readings of this week also mentioned that is not only because they are women but you have to add some other aspects like the color of their skin. This shows that society has many issues when a woman you are going to be treated or given a service like health care or job opportunities.  We have seen in this modern world that is an international issue too, as an example many actresses in the Hollywood industry also have spoken when they have a chance about it. Second week: No man is a prophet in his own land.

 During our second class, we discussed many things but one took a while.  Photo by  yousef alfuhigi  on  Unsplash  What made us, as Latinos, find success in other lands. During the discussion, a phrase pops up that we as Latinos say a lot:  No man is a prophet in his own land.  Researching more about the origin of this phrase, I found out that it comes from the bible  (Luke 4:16-30): " 23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘ Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum .’  24 “Truly I tell you,” he continued,  “no prophet is accepted in his hometown".   It wasn't rare to me because is a fact that the primary religion is Christianity in its different ways.
